Our second grade writers have been mindfully adding a catchy lead, a strong ending, dialogue, thoughts, feelings and show not tell to their stories.  What is show not tell?   It is showing  the readers what you were feeling by adding details,  i.e. instead of saying, “I was happy”, we can say ” I had a smile from ear to ear and my head was held high.

Today we acted out our stories with a partner to add more show not tell to our personal narratives by describing exactly how we wanted our partners to move and what we wanted them to do.  This was a powerful way for our writers to add these important details.
