Our second graders are using authors as mentors to revise their stories.  For the next few weeks, we will be exploring the world of revising  our stories.  Today we read from an author who used dialogue in her lead, big bold letters, feelings, thoughts, step by step details, the heart of the story, and “trashing” the word said.   We are encouraging the children to explore other words to use instead of “said”, therefore we are trashing the word and writing more descriptive language.

After learning from our mentor author, our second graders were BUSILY revising their own stories with their red revision pens.  It was WONDERFUL to hear their writing talk and discover that they could make changes to previously written stories to make them even better.   We have some VERY talented writers:)
