Science Update!

Our second graders are learning that matter is everywhere and that it can be in three different states:  solid, liquid or gas.   This week we will be investigating properties of matter through many experiments and group activities.  We will be describing matter using our 5 senses, the mass of an object and whether or not it is a mixture of a solution.   This is a very fun unit and our scientists will LOVE the hands on experiments!

Today we tested matter to determine it’s hardness, weight and buoyancy (sink/float) and described the similarities and differences between the objects.  We had a BLAST!

Matter Scientists!

Today in your child’s homework packet there is an opportunity for some “extra credit”.  If your child chooses to do a matter experiment either at home ( send me the video please :)) or here at school ( after they have prepared for the experiment), we would LOVE to see it!   Here are a few websites that offer ideas for experiments pertaining to matter, but Pinterest and Youtube are also good resources for ideas.  This is an optional activity for our second graders, but it would be a fun way to reinforce what we are learning at school.
