THANK YOU!

Thank you for ALL of the donations that you have supplied for our classroom…  we appreciate it!

Thank you for sharing your children with me this first week of second grade.   They are amazing kiddos and I can’t wait to share the year with them!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

First Day… Hooray!

We had a great first day together as a second grade family!  Our day was filled with learning about procedures, expectations and getting to know one another.  Setting the classroom climate is key for our learning this year.

Together we created a classroom promise and the children created mini faces to make their pledge to one another.  Thanks for sharing your children with me, I am really enjoying getting to know them!

First Day!

Before our exciting first day, here are three important reminders…

Student Information Forms – Please send in the student information forms (received at Open House) back to school on Tuesday. Double check to make sure that your contact information is correct for our files.

Me Bags – At Open House, your child also received a Me Bag. We will enjoy sharing these bags as we get to know one another throughout the first week of school. Please make sure that your child’s name is on his/her bag before sending it to school on Tuesday.

Water Bottle and Snacks – Your child should bring two healthy nut free snacks and a filled water bottle (no juice please) to stay fueled every day. Morning and afternoon snacks are essential for maintaining energy and attention. Please do not send candy or sugary snacks. High sugar foods cause an energy crash that makes learning difficult. If your child ever forgets a snack, we have a great supply of graham crackers (thanks for your donations!). For more information on snack ideas, you can click the Nut Free and Healthy Snack page on the left side of the blog.  We do have a NUT/TREE NUT FREE classroom.  Children can have nuts in the lunchroom, just not in the classroom.  Thank you for you consideration and support.

**Finally, with the start of a new school year many students experience some anxiety. Here is link to an excellent blog post to help children through these stressful moments. 13 Powerful Phrases Proven to Help an Anxious Child Calm Down

Looking forward to seeing those wonderful second graders on Tuesday. 🙂

Parent Survey and Open House Reminder

Please take a few moments to fill out this PARENT SURVEY.   I would love to know more about your child and their interests as well as some housekeeping items (volunteering opportunities and end of the day transportation). THANKS SO MUCH!!!

SAVE THE DATE:   Grade 1-5 Open House is on Thursday August 24 from 6:30 – 7:30.    Looking forward to seeing you then!  Feel free to bring any of your child’s supplies to school on this day, it really helps them feel settled in and prevents super heavy backpacks on the first day :).  Please see the tab along the side for a complete list of school supplies.

Keep On Learning With Reading & Mobymax

Dear Parents,

Studies have shown that students can lose up to 50% of learning during the summer vacation.   Georgetown is challenging you and your child to “KEEP ON LEARNING” this summer to prevent summer slide.  There are two ways to record your learning time:

  • Reading:  Log into  this form  to record the number of minutes you read.  You can record each day or enter the total for each week.
  • MOBYMAX Math and Reading:  We recommend that each child consistently use MobyMax each week in the core areas of reading and mathematics. If interested, you can also choose to work on other learning modules.  Spending just a few minutes each day on Mobymax will help to reduce  “summer slide” and keep your child’s learning skills fresh over the summer.

Our goals for students over the summer are below. Students who reach or exceed goals will be entered in a drawing for an Amazon Gift Card (1 per grade). This is for their grade next year.

Reading Minutes Mobymax
  • First Grade: 100 minutes
  • Second Grade: 200 minutes
  • Third Grade: 300 minutes
  • Fourth Grade: 400 minutes
  • Fifth Grade:  400 minutes
  • First Grade: 100 pts
  • Second Grade: 200 pts
  • Third Grade: 300 pts
  • Fourth Grade: 400 pts
  • Fifth Grade:  500 pts

If your child is new to the school and you would like login information, email Mrs. Reagan.  treagan@hpseagles.net

Have a great summer…and keep on learning with READING and MOBYMAX!

Box Tops and Coke Caps

COLLECT BOX TOPS & COKE CAPS

Did you know that every BOXTOP and every COKE CAP collected earns money for our school?   This summer we would like you to work hard to collect both.  The money we earn will go toward a basketball hoop on our K/1 playground!

BOXTOPS:  Every completed BOXTOP sheet is worth $5.00.  If every child from Georgetown (approx 550) fills  one sheet this summer, our school will earn $2,750.   Many thanks to Lori Simpson and all of you who are on her team of BOX TOP counters, trimmers and packers.  This is a great program that pays off because of all of YOU!     Download your form here:  Summer Box Tops

COKE CAPS:  Super easy. Save the caps and go online to enter collection!  COKE WEBSITE  (https://us.coca-cola.com/give/)   Select Georgetown Elementary and enter the code on the cap.   Now you can recycle the cap.  No need to send it to school.

Welcome to Second Grade 2017-2018

Welcome to our new second grade families!   Please make sure to register for email subscriptions  (upper right hand corner of blog) which alerts you via email when our classroom blog is updated.  We use the blog for classroom happenings, activities, special events and to share our learning fun.

Looking forward to the upcoming year… ENJOY YOUR SUMMER and treasure up some small moments to write about in the fall!    We will post a classroom supply list during the first few weeks of July (crazy to think about).

Our Future is Bright!

It is with mixed emotion that I ponder the thought of saying good-bye to 24 of the MOST AMAZING second grade children.  These children have become “my kiddos” and I love them all so dearly!  We have treasured many memories together and grown as learners.   Not only have we learned three digit addition, comprehension strategies and other curriculum concepts, but I trust that your child has gained confidence, a sense of self worth, respect for others and a knowledge of just how special they are.   Indeed they are INCREDIBLY SPECIAL!  Thank you for entrusting me with your precious jewels this year, they have richly blessed my life.
