Our second grade readers have been identifying the main idea in various non-fiction and fiction texts.  When we read a selection, we can ask ourselves, “What is this story mostly about?”, “What is the most important part of the story?”, “What does the author want to teach its readers?”.     As you read with your child at home,  help them identify the main idea of text by asking these same questions.
