Math Update

Today we started a new unit in math centered around measuring and geometry.   This morning we were able to use a centimeter ruler to measure objects around the room and practice drawing line segments.   We will also be exploring 2D and 3D Shapes as well as solving for the perimeter of a shape.  Be on the lookout for shapes around on the house and in the community.  Below please find the most recent parent letter.

Math Update

Our second graders are learning to measure the length or height of any object. This week, we have investigated how to take measurements and put the data into a line plot. Below find the current parent letter, and have some fun measuring objects around the house in centimeters, inches and meters.

Math Update

Today  we started a new math unit.. YAY!    We will be using new tools, rulers, to help us measure line segments, draw shapes and solve for perimeter ( distance around a shape).    Our main focus will be describing shapes by their name, the numbers of angles and the number of sides that they have.   We will also be investigating 3-Dimensional shapes and using BIG geometry terms such as, faces, prism and area.       Here is a copy of the most recent parent letter:

Math Update

We are extending our study of geometry and measurement to using a line plot to show data.   Today we measured the height of our classmates and displayed the results in a line plot.  In the next few days, we will be using many units of measurements including meters, inches, feet and yards.  Below find the most recent parent letter  ( click on the image below for a clearer picture) 🙂

Math Update

Today we began a study of measurement.  Through this unit, we will learn how to measure lengths in inches and centimeters, as well as explore various 2D and 3D shapes.   Check out the parent letter below regarding our first lesson today (click the picture below to enlarge):
