First Day… Hooray!

We had a great first day together as a second grade family!  Our day was filled with learning about procedures, expectations and getting to know one another.  Setting the classroom climate is key for our learning this year.

Together we created a classroom promise and the children created mini faces to make their pledge to one another.  Thanks for sharing your children with me, I am really enjoying getting to know them!

First Day!

Before our exciting first day, here are three important reminders…

Student Information Forms – Please send in the student information forms (received at Open House) back to school on Tuesday. Double check to make sure that your contact information is correct for our files.

Me Bags – At Open House, your child also received a Me Bag. We will enjoy sharing these bags as we get to know one another throughout the first week of school. Please make sure that your child’s name is on his/her bag before sending it to school on Tuesday.

Water Bottle and Snacks – Your child should bring two healthy nut free snacks and a filled water bottle (no juice please) to stay fueled every day. Morning and afternoon snacks are essential for maintaining energy and attention. Please do not send candy or sugary snacks. High sugar foods cause an energy crash that makes learning difficult. If your child ever forgets a snack, we have a great supply of graham crackers (thanks for your donations!). For more information on snack ideas, you can click the Nut Free and Healthy Snack page on the left side of the blog.  We do have a NUT/TREE NUT FREE classroom.  Children can have nuts in the lunchroom, just not in the classroom.  Thank you for you consideration and support.

**Finally, with the start of a new school year many students experience some anxiety. Here is link to an excellent blog post to help children through these stressful moments. 13 Powerful Phrases Proven to Help an Anxious Child Calm Down

Looking forward to seeing those wonderful second graders on Tuesday. 🙂

A Great Start!

We have had great couple of days in second grade spending time getting to know one another,  reviewing Georgetown rules and having fun together.   This week is all about building routines and expectations while learning about each other and our classroom.    They are such sweet kiddos.. check them out for yourself 🙂

Happy First Day!!!

Hi Families,

We had a GREAT first day together as a second grade family!!!!   You all have some pretty amazing and beautiful children!!!

Tonight your child will be coming home with a blue take home folder.  This folder is where materials are housed to and from school.  Feel free to send information back to school in this folder as well.

On the back, you will find our Daily News.  This is where we write something special from our day together.  There is also a spot for us to write where we ended up on the rainbow behavior chart.  We did not start this today, but we will be going over it and circling where we ended up tomorrow and every day there after.

The next box is where you, parents, initial that you were able to view your child’s day.  When the children bring their signed folder into school the next day, they will earn a penny ( we have a classroom incentive program to earn money to spend in Mrs. Kuieck’s Kit – n – Kaboodle at the end of each month).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  Get some rest tonight and I look forward to seeing these smiling faces tomorrow 🙂

FIRST DAY… HOORAY!!!

Hi Families,

Our first day of second grade is Tuesday September 4… YEAH!!!!   It’s time to start preparing our minds by getting adequate rest and going to bed a little bit earlier (so hard to do when it is beautiful out!).

Here are a few other things to prepare for and keep in mind:

*  If you haven’t filled out the PARENT SURVEY yet, please do :).

*  Make sure to pack clean gym shoes for your child to use for PE.  It works very nicely to keep these gym shoes in your child’s locker for the duration of the year.

*  Please notice our classroom calendar that is on the right side of the blog.  Here you can find our special schedule for Art, Music and PE as well as other important school/classroom events.

*  When students come to school on Tuesday morning, they can bring their backpacks to the line labeled MRS.KUIECK which is right outside the 2/3 doors and then they will be able to play on the 2/3 playground until the bell rings.   I will be outside waiting for my precious jewels as well :).

*  Please talk with your child about what they will be having for lunch, and if ordering a hot lunch is necessary.  If you need a copy of the September Hot Lunch Menu, see the following link  HOT LUNCH.

*  There will be an opportunity for two snack breaks in our day.  Please make sure your child has two healthy snacks packed.

I am SOOOO excited to start our year together, and get to know my new second grade friends!!!!!!

Please feel free to email me with any questions that you may have before our first day together 🙂
