Reading Update

As we read text, it is important to check for understanding.  Our second graders are using a new tool called, “the check for understanding bookmark”.  This bookmark reminds us to retell our stories after reading a page or two.  If we have difficulty retelling characters, key events setting and other important features, we can go back and reread before we check  for understanding again.   We can also practice this strategy as we read with our partners to help guide their comprehension.  Look for a bookmark to come home today in your child’s Reading Counts book baggie.

Reading Update

We are learning to check for understanding  while reading to help us comprehend (understand) what we read.   After we read a page, we can STOP, get out our checkmark and retell who is in the story, what happened, when, where or why an event happened.   If we can retell the events of the page, we can continue reading. If we have difficulty retelling what we have read, we go back, reread and then check for understanding again.  KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK READERS!
